How much does Christmas light installation cost in Colorado?

Professional Christmas light installation in the Denver and Boulder area costs between $550 and $5,000 for the full season. Season packages start at $550. Most homes pay $1,000 to $2,500, larger homes with multiple trees and grounds run $2,500 to $5,000, and most businesses and HOA properties fall between $1,000 and $5,000 or more.

At Family Holiday Lighting that figure is all-in: design, commercial-grade lights, installation, season inspections, 48-hour repairs, takedown and off-season storage — with the price locked for three years.

Not everyone decorates like the Griswolds. That is the maximum, not the median. If you want the whole house lit like that — every gable, every dormer, wreaths on the windows, a tree in every bed — you are at the top of these ranges or above them, and that is a real conversation worth having. Most of our clients light the roofline, the entry and a tree or two, and land in the middle.

What drives the number

Four variables account for nearly all the difference between one quote and another. Crew time is the largest single cost in any of them.

Linear feet of rooflineThe primary driver. Expect roughly $5 to $7 per linear foot installed with commercial-grade product in this market. A single-story ranch and a three-story with dormers can differ by a factor of three on the same street.
Trees, and how tallWrapping is slow, skilled work. Budget roughly $300 to $500 per tree, with tall spruces and full-canopy wraps running higher — a 60-foot blue spruce is a day's work on its own.
Windows, columns and featuresWindow frames, porch columns, railings, wreaths and garland are priced per feature, usually $50 to $100 each.
Roof access and pitchSteep pitch, high eaves, tile roofs and awkward access all add crew hours and safety equipment. This is the factor homeowners most often underestimate when comparing bids.

What should be included — and often isn't

The cheapest quote is frequently the one that excludes the most. When comparing installers in Colorado, check each of these explicitly:

Is it cheaper to do it yourself?

Rarely, once the real costs are counted. Commercial-grade product, clips, timers and a ladder rated for the work are a meaningful upfront spend, and sockets degrade in Colorado's UV over roughly five years. With a professional service you're charged one year of material cost spread across that life — and you carry none of the ladder risk. Ladders are the leading cause of injuries around the home, and December roofs in Colorado are icy.

The honest exception: a single-story home where you already own good product and enjoy the work. Above one story, the maths and the risk both move against you.

When to book — and what waiting costs you

Preseason. In Colorado that means reserving by October 31, and sooner than that for HOA and commercial properties, which take longer to scope and approve.

Prices change through the season. Availability tightens and the work itself gets harder — shorter days, colder roofs, snow and ice on the shingles. If you wait until November you'll find the top installers already fully booked, because each area has a fixed crew allotment. That allotment isn't a sales tactic; it's the only way season inspections and 48-hour repairs stay deliverable once every crew is out every day.

November is prime season at standard pricing. Thanksgiving week runs 10% higher, and we do not install on Thanksgiving Day. Installs after Thanksgiving earn a 5% twilight discount. If value is what you're after, October is the sweet spot: our pre-season installs are 10% off.

Preseason reservations get first choice of install dates and a free 24-inch lit wreath. Installs run October through early December.

Before October
Preseason reservation: first choice of the remaining dates and a free 24" lit wreath. HOA and commercial should book first.
October
Pre-season: installs are 10% off, and the weather is still on your side. Reserve by October 31 and the free wreath still applies.
November
Prime season at standard pricing. Thanksgiving week runs 10% higher, and there are no installs on Thanksgiving Day.
After Thanksgiving
Twilight discount: installs are 5% off.
December
Limited to whatever is left. Some properties can't be done safely at all by this point.

Common questions

How much does Christmas light installation cost in Colorado?

Between $550 and $5,000 for the full season in the Denver and Boulder area. Season packages start at $550, most homes pay $1,000 to $2,500, and larger homes run $2,500 to $5,000. Businesses and HOA properties fall between $1,000 and $5,000 or more.

Do installers charge per foot?

Most price per linear foot of roofline plus per-tree and per-feature rates — roughly $5 to $7 per foot and $300 to $500 per wrapped tree in this market. Family Holiday Lighting quotes one all-in seasonal figure instead of itemising, so nothing is added at takedown.

Does the price include taking the lights down?

It should, but often it doesn't. Many installers charge a separate January takedown fee and hand the product back for you to store. With us, takedown and labeled storage are both included, and your lights are never rented out or reused on another property.

What if a bulb goes out mid-season?

Our inspector drives every install through the season, so most failures are fixed before you notice. Anything you report is repaired within 48 hours at no charge.

Can I see what my house will look like before I commit?

Yes. Send one photo and we'll return a free mockup of your own home lit at dusk — no charge, no obligation.

Which areas do you cover?

Erie, Longmont, Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville, Broomfield, Lyons, Firestone, Thornton, Loveland and Arvada, Colorado.

What is included in the price?

At Family Holiday Lighting one price covers everything: custom design for the property, commercial-grade LED lights provided, professional installation by our trained, fully insured company, an inspector who drives the install all season, repairs within 48 hours at no charge, takedown in January, and labeled off-season storage. The price is then locked for three years.

What makes one quote more expensive than another?

Four things drive the number: linear feet of roofline, the number and height of trees to wrap, the number of windows and architectural features, and roof access and pitch. A steep three-story roofline takes far longer to work safely than a single-story ranch, and that crew time is the largest single cost in any quote.

Is it cheaper to hang Christmas lights yourself?

Rarely, once the true costs are counted. Commercial-grade product, clips, timers, a ladder rated for the work, and the replacement of strands that degrade in Colorado's UV add up over the roughly five-year life of a socket. With a professional service you are charged one year of material cost spread across that life, and you carry none of the ladder risk. Ladders are the leading cause of injuries around the home.

When is the cheapest time to book Christmas light installation?

Reserve by October 31, and sooner for HOA and commercial properties. Availability tightens as the season goes on, and the work gets harder in cold and snow. October is the best value: pre-season installs are 10% off. November is prime season at standard pricing. Thanksgiving week runs 10% higher and we do not install on Thanksgiving Day; installs after Thanksgiving are 5% off. Preseason reservations get first choice of install dates and a free 24-inch lit wreath. Installs run October through early December.
